11-18-06 Speaking with human resources professionals
across the country this week the topic was how much salary was reasonable for
.net programmers to expect. We broke it down into five groups
Novice/Intern = just graduated from programmer training. Has no
professional experience programming. Expected earnings 36k a year
Entry Level = Less than one year total experience coding
business class applications 40 -48K a year
Mid level 1-36 months coding in a production .net environment on
a daily basis. 48k -80k
Senior level 36 or more months coding in an enterprise class
.net environment. Typically has several years coding in pre .net languages. 80k
to 115k
Subject Matter Expert (SME) 4 or more years .net coding, has
published articles, accepts speaking engagements, MVP, typically has over ten
years programming experience. 115K and up.
A word about variables: Candidates who have other complimenting
skill sets can expect higher wages. For example four years Oracle pl/sql is
worth 70K - 90k. add one year .net to that and that increase earnings potential
10 - 20%. College degrees do not necessarily impact the wages, but having a
degree will enhance your chances of being on the short list for the
opportunities.
Conclusion:
Additional conclusion: Candidates with previous
experience in SQA, Oracle and Linux who acquire new .net skills now will be able
to secure greater than entry level positions. As previously noted, If you have
these skills, call us, if not call your nearest IT school and get into classes!
